The parti pris takes advantage of the existing topography to create a building that is integrated with the site, having a controlled visual impact by reinforcing its longitudinal axis and keeping a low height, thus respecting the surrounding buildings and natural environment. The overall building block was deconstructed in order to accommodate different programatic needs in different levels while assuring spatial and visual fluidity between the various spaces through inter-connected ramps. Leisure and social areas were transferred to the top and rooftop of the building, instead of the ground floor where these spaces are commonly located, thus creating a unique interaction with the building's surroundings.
The peculiar climate conditions in Brasília were of paramount importance when designing a climate control system that would fight the intense heat of the summer and the low humidity of the winter, as well as take advantage of natural light and natural ventilation in order to dissipate heat. With that in mind, the building’s external envelope was designed with a double skin of structural channel-glass. The green roof is also responsible for maintaining a proper climate control, reducing the internal and external temperatures and capturing rainwater for reuse.
